This policy explains how Teals (Whitestone Capital Holdings Pty Ltd, ABN 37 643 764 096) handles your personal information, in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.
The information needed to run an auction account: your email, the handle you choose, bidding and watchlist activity, lots you win, and - at checkout - the name, delivery address and payment details required to take payment and ship your purchase. We don't collect more than we need, and we don't buy personal data from third parties.
To operate the auction, keep you signed in, tell you about lots you've bid on or are watching, take payment, ship your order, provide support, and meet our tax and record-keeping obligations. We only send marketing email if you've opted in, and every marketing email has a one-click unsubscribe.
We use a small number of trusted service providers to run the platform: our payment and store provider (Shopify) to process payments and orders; hosting providers for the website (Vercel) and the auction system (Railway); a realtime provider (Ably) to power the live auction; an email provider (Resend) to send account and order emails; and an error-monitoring provider (Sentry) to keep the site reliable. We also use Meta (Facebook and Instagram) advertising tools to measure and run our advertising: when this is active, a Meta pixel on the site and a matching server signal tell Meta about actions like viewing a lot or making a purchase, and share a securely hashed version of your email so Meta can attribute and target advertising. Each provider only receives what it needs for that task. We never sell your personal information.
Some of our providers, including our auction system's hosting and our advertising tools, store or process data on servers outside Australia (currently in the United States) - this includes the Meta advertising signals described above. Where that happens we take reasonable steps, consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles, to ensure your information is handled to a comparable standard, including contractual protections and data minimisation. We never store full card numbers - those are held by the payment provider.
A single secure sign-in cookie keeps you logged in - it is essential to the site working. Your browser also stores a few local preferences (like acknowledging that bids are binding), and we keep a first-touch attribution value for up to 30 days so we can understand which campaign brought you to us. When our advertising is active, Meta's pixel also sets its own cookies to measure and target advertising across Facebook and Instagram. You can opt out of interest-based advertising through your Meta ad settings and your browser or device controls, and you can ask us any time to stop using your information for advertising by emailing us.
You can access or correct your personal information, or delete your account, at any time from your account settings or by emailing us. If you have a privacy concern, contact us first and we'll work to resolve it; you can also complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).
