Colour descriptions use hue (which colour), tone (how light or dark), and saturation (how pure and strong). These describe different aspects of a stone's appearance; carat weight describes its weight.
When looking through a lot's photographs, look for how evenly the colour appears across the stone and how it looks in different views. Read those photographs alongside the written description and any report supplied.
A description such as pale or vivid should help explain appearance. It is not a promise about resale value. Check whether a colour grade is supported by the report for that particular lot rather than assuming that every pink stone uses the same grading scale.
