Auctions can be a way to find something distinctive for someone who enjoys collecting or choosing unusual objects. Set a delivered budget first, and leave enough time for the auction to finish, payment and delivery.
Is a loose gemstone the right gift?
A loose stone is not finished jewellery. It may suit someone who collects stones or wants to choose a setting together. If you plan to have it made into jewellery, ask a jeweller about suitability, setting cost and timing before bidding.
How do I stay within budget?
Allow for delivery and any work the item needs. Set your private maximum within the amount you are comfortable committing. A low starting bid does not establish the final selling price, and you are not guaranteed to win.
What if I win several lots?
One delivery charge per auction: $19 plus 2.5% of your total winning bids. The $19 is charged once, not per item. Includes transit protection.
Combined delivery can make multiple wins more practical, but each bid is still a commitment. Choose the items you want rather than bidding just to spread delivery costs.
What should I check first?
Read the photographs, measurements, condition notes and applicable treatment disclosures. Check the auction's closing date and the delivery information. For a time-sensitive gift, ask before bidding rather than assuming an arrival date.
